Return Of The 7 Heaven.
This week I had a hit of the PING G410 7 Wood and I must say they have come a long way. I have been told by many Company Reps how many of their tour players use 7 woods and I can understand why.
The hybrid replaced the long iron and now the 7 and 9 woods are replacing the 2 and 3 hybrids. I actually showed Rodger Davis mine this week and now he also has one. In fact he said it’s a shame they weren’t around when he was on tour. They really are that easy to hit. The miss-hits feel like the centred shots and I got several ‘great shot’ comments on ones I thinned. I think they may be even easier to hit than my hybrids. They fly higher and stop quicker so they are great into a long Par 4 or Par 5.
I have replaced my 3 hybrid with a 7 Wood so now I have a Driver, 3 Wood, 7 Wood, 4 Hybrid and 5 Iron down in my bag and I think that is the perfect combination for me.
Tiger used one to win in Japan while Bubba Watson and Mark Leishman have been using one for years so add me to the happy customer list. The smaller head makes it easy to get in the air and the wider sole allows you to hit down on the ball without digging into the ground. The sweet-spot is larger and even my heeled shots flew the same distance as my sweet shots, which I really liked. In fact, I started to use it everywhere around the courser, long Par 3’s, second shots into long Par 4’s and even into a couple of Par 5’s but t really liked it off the tee on tight short Par 4’s.
They are shorter in length than my 3 wood which gives you the feel they are easy to hit, they look great, feel great and fly great. Not bad combination all round.
The first hit I had with it I was sold. The difference in the feel from my 3 Iron to my 7 Wood was amazing. No matter how the lie was the 7 Wood just made the ball come out and fly strong and long. They are hard to hit off-line and I think anyone who hits one will be instantly sold and decide to buy one. I have several models in different brands to try, so next time you are passing. come in and check them out.
See you next week,
