A Full Face Answer
This week I got my hands on the new Cleveland CBX Full Face Wedge and went out to play 9 holes, in a 2-ball of course.
The new wedge design is simple, it combines 2 proven winners… 1: full-face grooves like other wedges already out there. and 2: a higher toe shape like others, but none have combined these into one secret weapon like Cleveland have.
The full-face milling and the high-toe shape go together like bread and butter. The higher toe allows you to open the face as much as you want and still position the ball in the middle of the face. This, along with the new sole design, creates a lower bounce which allows offers a lot more manipulation of the face and loft. In other words, if you open the face the lower bounce still allows you to get under the ball, even on tight lies.
Visually they are fantastic with a new darker look almost gunmetal grey in colour so there is no harsh sun reflecting into your eyes under the midday sun. This also allows the higher lofts such as 60 and 64-degree models to look like a standard wedge. In fact, they also had a strong flight and the lower bounce made it easy to make full swings even with the highest of lofts.
At the moment they only come in Right-Hand models and they are available in 56, 58, 60 and 64-degree options. They look great and really make hitting high shots around the green easy and I must say I think they really filled in an important gap in my game, the high lob shot over the bunker from a tight summer lie.
Come in and check them out.
See you next week,
